Lion Hills Golf Club, previously a private course named Columbus Country Club, is now a Semi-Private 18 hole golf course. The course is located in Columbus, Mississippi.
The course was purchased out of bankruptcy by East Mississippi Community College. The purchase became official Novemeber 1, 2012. The Club dates to 1923. The course as we know it today dates to 1960 and was designed by John Frazier.
The front nine is very flat, fairly easy, and great to warm up on. The back nine is more challenging (understatedly), more scenic, very up and down. This course has enough variety of terrain to challenge the most seasoned veteran. There are large trees that can alter your shots, and water hazards come into play on a few holes. The signature hole is #8, a 407-yard, par 4, requiring an approach shot to an elevated green located at the base of a valley.

The East Mississippi Community College (EMCC) staff has done a remarkable turn around bringing this course out of bankruptcy.
Tiered rough around greens and excellent fairways are part of the improvements brought with proper equipment and adequate maintainence staff.
Pace of play is four hours on weekends with a Marshall and three to three and a half on weekdays.
This is easily the best value I have found with a $100/momth membership with cart.

Greens VERY bad. Lack of grass. Weeds divert putts. Better in the past. BEAUTIFUL front nine. Back nine ... flat and prone to standing water. STAFF & pro Shop are very good.
